In September 2019, Colt Firearms introduced it was discontinuing creation of the AR-15 for The patron market place, citing "significant excessive manufacturing capability" over the marketplace and the company's "superior-quantity contracts" with military and law enforcement forces that were "absorbing all of Colt's production capability for rifles"
